Another Summer Top Done

Remember I cut out five garments last weekend, but only got three finished? Well, I finished another one.

I first made this pattern two years ago and didn't like it at all. After writing a review on PR, I was told that it didn't make me look pregnant, just full-busted. Well, I guess that's better. Everytime I wore the first one, I got loads of compliments. The pattern is Simplicity 5013 which is an OOP Jr. Plus pattern. I sewed the largest size with alterations, of course.

I still think it looks a bit maternity, but that's what's "in" right now. Today I'll cut out a pair of red jeans to go with my new top. I'm not sure if it is proper for a plus-sized woman to wear red jeans, let alone a sleeveless top, but I'm going to do it. If I can keep up this pace up, I'll get my summer wardrobe done before summer gets here. That would be some accomplishment.

  2. I had to laugh ,i was just looking at some red fabric i bought for a suit.Red is my favourite colour but i'm rethinking whether i could go red from head to toe.LOL.
Maybe some contrasting top stitching would be enough to break it up...mmmmmm

  3. Red is a color that anyone who wants to wear red can and should wear! Why not? You should just feel good in whatever you wear. The top doesn't look maternity, but I know what you mean about the style these days.

  6. I think your tops are very summery and pretty. If you want to wear red pants, wear them and be proud!

  7. Your tops look beautiful on you. You look cool and chic. Love the red floral top. I need to add more red hues to my wardrobe. I'm even thinking about knitting a red cardigan. Something bright to offset all the black that I enjoy wearing. lol! :)

  8. The top doesn't look like a maternity top to me. It's really cute. As for red pants -- go for it! Red is a great color. I, for one, get sick and tired of the so-called rules -- plus-sized ladies shouldn't wear this or that! Says who?? I think it's nonsense! Wear what makes you feel good. Wearing red is all about attitude. Wear it proudly!

  13. I say go for the red jeans. You may or may not want to go red head-to-toe on some days, but they'll be a great neutral with black or white tops, and probably a lot of other things in your wardrobe.

  16. I'll add that it is ill-fitting clothes that us bigger gals should stay away from. Sexy, well fitting outfits are PERFECT! You look fab.

  19. I love all the tops you've made! Do you buy a plus-size pattern? Do you find you have to do a full bust adjustment even on a t-shirt pattern?

  20. Love both tops,Sherril, but I absolutely adore how the green(?) one looks on you.The fabric is divine and the fit is amazing.
We have a similar shape- what a pain that it's OOP. Have you,by any chance, seen another top that is similar?
