The sleeve, Oye Vey!

I'm definitely going to have to do something about the sleeve. I think I'll steal one from another pattern. I'm not sure which one yet. Maybe the two piece sleeve isn't for me. However, I'm liking the princess seam instead of the dart. This fabric is awful to work with. I haven't decided what the final one will be, but I'm still considering the red/white toile.

I'm much happier with the back. I'll just let it out a tiny bit in the center where it's pulling and then I'm calling it good enough.

The side looks really pretty good, except for the sleeve, of course. Tomorrow I'll go hunting for a new sleeve, do a muslin and then I'm ready for the real thing. I can't wait to get the jacket made.

  1. I didn't notice the sleeve issue until you mentioned it! The rest of the jacket fits really well. Honestly, I would probably leave the sleeve as is, but then, I'm not as patient with fitting issues as you are (although I need to be!)

  2. I have to admit I'm incredibly jealous how well you make your assessments and alterations. =) Wish I could give some ideas for the sleeve but I can't wait to see the final jacket! BTW, the pattern fabric I got was from pinkchalkfabrics.com (it's Alexander Henry.)

  3. I too am liking the princess seam. Much better than the dart. And, you are right about the sleeve. What is going on with that? I noticed it right away. You are very patient with the fitting issues, but a quality garment that will last many years is worth the effort in the long run.

  4. It's coming along! The back looks great, I think.

  5. Hi Sherril, You made great progress on fitting your princess seam jacket. I understand that you want to get the best fitting sleeve for it. In testing the fit of the sleeve, you might want to try sewing both in the muslin. It helps to see if there is any additional pulling at the armholes, chest, and back area.

  6. Must admit, I like the princess seams better. I'm thinking that sleeve cap may be too high. You could try flattening it out a bit. Just a hunch, I am no fit guru.

  7. How did you accomplished changing the dart to a side princess seam? If I had to guess, you cut through the dart to where the side seam would end then added 5/8 inches to the new front piece and front side seam. Please let me know when you get a chance. Thanks
