Summer is Over

I can't believe it's been almost a month since I've blogged. It doesn't seem like it. The last two weeks were a blur and the week before that was crazy too with Sister coming home. Needless to say, I still haven't done any sewing. I feel like a great big loser for not finishing yet again another patternreview.com contest. I did get the second pair of pants almost finished and I messed up the ivory knit and had to buy some new fabric. It got cut but that's as far as I got. The jacket didn't get touched. I'm still going to finish everything, I just don't know when I'll get to it. Soon, I hope.

My seven week summer vacation flew by and next year it's going to be even shorter. Roving classrooms is a big Pain. Angie, you're right. Teachers are very territorial. I don't have enough bookshelf space, no board space and I feel like I can't even accidentally leave anything in the classrooms. I need desk space somewhere, but I don't know where. I'm thinking a table in the lunch/work room is going to become mine. However, my teacher materials are all over the place, not where I need it. Anyway, I could go on and on, but I'll stop.

I have been dreaming about the pattern stash contest on patternreview.com. There are several patterns I want to try out but I think this contest is too short to have to muslin and alter several patterns. Maybe I'll just sew with my accessories patterns. I do want to make some slippers, a purse, a sewing machine, serger, and coverlock machine cover. Maybe I'll make baby clothes for great niece. Or, here's an idea. How about I finish the mini-wardrobe? Yea, that's probably what I'll do. But first, I think I'll clean house. You know how it is, once you start sewing, nothing else gets done for a while.

  1. Sounds like you've been busy. I had big plans to enter a contest too, but.... sometimes life gets in the way. Good on you for getting started and I'm sure it'll all get done eventually.
As for the housework, well you're not alone there. I've totally given up on the kids rooms except for the occasional nagging and I'm barely holding my own on the rest. I'm just counting down to our summer hols with the faint hope things will get sorted then, lol.

  2. I'm glad you're joining the wardrobe sew along with me!

Sorry about the traveling teacher thing. That really sucks. I'm traveling one period a day this year, and I've got a little cart that I load up and push around, but I STILL forget something inevitably every single day. Sigh.

The no board space and no wall space is bugging me more than I thought it would too. We're required to write our objectives on the board every day, and we're required to take attendance online. Well...I can never get TO the classroom to write my obj. down before class starts, so do I waste class time to do that?? And then today I didn't get to take attendance until the office called and asked for it because the teacher who's room I was in never left his computer. So I had no WAY to take attendance.

Those are minor tiny frustrations though. I've actually got it pretty good. I love the teacher I'm invading this year, today wasn't an every day case at all. It just adds another stressor to an already stressful job though, which can be tough at times.

    Hang in there!

  3. You could finish the mini-wardrobe then accessorize it with the "new" patterns. Win--win. LOL

  4. Sometimes I enjoy my sewing time more if I take a couple of hours and do all the other stuff around the house --- at least start a load of laundry, tidy up, run the vacuum and clean the bathroom. Then I can get lost in my sewing project without the nagging thoughts about all the other things that need to be done. I'd love to play in the pattern from stash contest (I must have 100 unused patterns) but I'll be on vacation for 2 weeks this month, so I won't really have time to devote to it.

  5. Sorry for the bad comment - had a dickens of a time getting my id & and password to take - never changed a thing but it finally worked. grhhh sometimes technology is so not worth it.

Anyway, glad to see you back but sorry you didn't finish in time - probably all for the best - I find working under time pressure like that for what is after a hobby to be just too much.

Good luck with whatever sewing direction you decide upon.
